I have just served a year in KAMC, Aka Guantanamo Bay, well for most part thats what it felt like. I was told I was a risk to my patients, for the first time in 40 years.
But the other writers have been too kind. We did twelve hour shifts, haha, these turned out to be over 131/2 hour shifts by the time the handover was over and the Ward Manager had her say and then we had to endure a Clinical Nurse Educator trying to convince everyone that she knew something. What a jumped up thing she was.
I moved to another area, by mutual agreement, it was that or get out.
Some six months later I was talking to a colleague who had the same issues, with the same people as i did, phew it wasn't just me after all.
Back to the area i moved to. I was told by the Manager that they were doing me a favour and that I should be grateful. Yeah right!!
Every other day we had a staff meetings where we would be threatened with file notes, (warning letters) if we didn't conform. 5 letters and you got a 'letter of intention' two letters of intention and your pay was deducted by 25% for that month. It was easy to get file notes, no VERY easy.
We could not challenge, complain or even offer suggestions, I was told i was not there to think just do.
Yes it is a culture of blame, I said that myself many times.
60 days notice for leave, sorry wrong, my clinic manager (whoops, I have given away where I was 'posted to', wanted an extra 10 days at least to get her act together as well. Yep, so long as the paper work was done the patients did not matter.
I need to go now. BUT I WILL BE BACK. Have you guessed, from the clues who I am yet???
